Pampanga fisherfolk get assistance from BFAR

LUBAO -- Fisherfolk from the different districts of Pampanga received thousands worth of assistance from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) at San Rafael Baruya here Wednesday.

The assistance included fishing paraphernalia, safety gears and other fishing equipment.

Leading the distribution were BFAR officials, municipal councilors of Lubao, municipal agriculturists and fisherfolk of Barangay Baruya.

The assistance included pieces of life vests, sets of gillnets, and units of lanterns among others.

BFAR said that the assistance is part of the continuing program of the national government to professionalize the fisherfolk sector and promote sustainable and environment-friendly fishing practices.

Local fisherfolk leader Mario Guinto lauded the efforts of BFAR, Mayor Mylyn Cayabyab and the national government in giving help and support to the fishery sector in Pampanga. He added that the province has been enjoying so much assistance and projects from the national government.
