PROPER farm sanitation training will soon become a requirement for issuance of business permits for all poultry farms of the city.
Jesus Melchor Quitain Jr., chair of the committee on laws, rules, and ordinances, told reporters last Thursday, May 3 that the "Proper Farm Sanitation Management Training" ordinance has already been passed and approved by the council in the month of April.
"It is a good ordinance since its purpose is to require the owners to undergo trainings on how to control toe odor and flies in their poultry business, if you would not undergo seminar and training you would not be issued a permit," he said.
Quitain said the ordinance was crafted after the residents living in poultry farms complained of bad odor and flies.
The ordinance will require all poultry farm to undergo orientation and training when it comes to proper farm management to protect public health to be conducted by the Sanitary Division of the City Health Office (CHO) as an additional requirement for the issuance of business permit. This shall apply to breeders or growers operating within the jurisdiction of Davao City.
A Certificate of Training will also be issued by the CHO to persons who will undergo and complete the training in which each applicants shall pay 50 pesos to the city treasurer for the training fee.
A scheduled inspection of the farm will also be conducted by the city government through the representatives of the CHO, Agriculturist's Office and the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in order to inquire on the compliance with the ordinance. This shall also be done in the presence of the poultry owner or authorized representative.
Meanwhile, a penalty P10,000 and stoppage order will be imposed on poultry farms operating without a permit.
The farm will only be allowed to resume its operation when it has complied with the requirements.
