DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio referred to new House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as "a strong leader" as she congratulated the former president for her new role in the House of Representatives.
But she has no words for ousted House speaker Pantaleon Alvarez.
"No comment," Duterte-Carpio said.
She also refused to comment on talks that she was behind the ouster of Alvarez.
Macapagal-Arroyo replaced Davao del Norte Representative Pantaleon Alvarez after a House coup that delayed the State of the Nation Address (Sona) of President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday, July 23.
Duterte-Carpio had once warned Alvarez against spreading rumors about her saying the former House speaker was messing with the wrong girl in February 2018.
This was after Alvarez allegedly accused Duterte-Carpio of creating a new party to oppose her father, the President.
This after the city mayor headed the creation of Hugpong ng Pagbabago to unite the governors of the provinces in the region and ensure coordinated development.
Alvarez had belied saying such, but Duterte-Carpio local officials in Alvarez's province had told her about what he said.
The House voted to install Arroyo as new Speaker on Monday evening, July 23, after President Duterte's Sona. A total of 184 House members voted in favor of Arroyo while 12 abstained.
Alvarez is a member of Partido Demokratiko ng Pilipinas-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), the national party to which President Rodrigo Duterte belongs. He sits as a district representative in Davao del Norte.
