DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said that the city's community quarantine status will be determined on Monday, June 15, 2020.
Duterte-Carpio, in a radio interview on 87.5 FM Davao City Disaster Radio on Friday, June 12, said that the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) will announce it.
Currently, the city, which is the hotspot of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in Davao Region due to the significant number of cases, is under extended general community quarantine (GCQ).
The mayor did not discuss whether Davao City's GCQ will be extended, or will now be downgraded to modified GCQ.
However, she said that regardless of the city's quarantine status, the public should expect more cases in the city following the resumption of some offices and establishments, and the resumption of some land and air travels, as mandated by the IATF omnibus guidelines under GCQ and modified GCQ.
Duterte-Carpio said in a previous radio interview that there will be a possible surge of Covid-19 cases in the city between June and July.
This is based on the observations and analysis of the city's medical consultants.
Meanwhile, in an interview with GMA Network's One Mindanao on the same day, Duterte-Carpio said there has been a fluctuation in the rising cases per day.
"Naa mga adlaw nga nagababa ang number tungod sa atong recoveries. Pero duna adaw nga duna ga-positive within the communities (there are days wherein our cases decrease due to the significant number of recoveries. However, there are also days that positive cases are recorded within the communities)," the mayor said.
Due to the absence of the Covid-19 vaccine and medicine, she said the city continues to establish its management system in handling these cases by following the national government's action plan such as "test, raise, and treat."
"Mao kana siya ato ginapanigurado nga working ato system since wala kita bakuna, wala gihapon tambal (we are making sure that our system is working considering there is still no vaccine and medicine for the virus)," Duterte-Carpio said.
Despite the city's quarantine status still in question, she already told the public to set their expectations considering the city is still under quarantine.
Duterte-Carpio emphasized that the local government would continue to set control measures to regulate the influx of people going out of their residence.
On the lifting of the curfew and the 24-hour liquor ban, she said they are waiting for the updated IATF guidelines, which they would adapt in the executive order.
According to the June 12 data of the Department of Health (DOH)-Davao Region, Davao City remains to have the highest number of Covid-19 cases with 347, including 213 recoveries and 26 deaths.
Meanwhile, Davao Region currently has 417 Covid-19 cases, with 254 recoveries and 31 deaths.
