DURING the 30th regular session of the 20th City Council at the Sanguniang Panglungsod on Tuesday morning, August 08, the ordinance establishing the Davao City Housing Office (DCHO) department was given the green light.
The ordinance, proposed by Councilor Alberto Ungab, aims to elevate the housing and homesite development division of the City Planning and Development Office to a full-fledged city government department to be named the Davao City Housing Office (DCHO).
The primary role of this department is to facilitate the creation of efficient and ecologically sustainable settlements for the homeless, individuals inhabiting hazardous areas, and low-income households in Davao City through collaborative efforts involving shelter agencies and the corporate sector.
Beyond catering to housing needs for Dabawenyos, the DCHO will take on the challenge of addressing the city's housing backlog. It will spearhead the identification and registration of beneficiaries from all 182 barangays for the economic and socialized human settlement program under the auspices of the City Registration Committee.
The new department will also facilitate diverse land procurement methods, employing a well-balanced approach to housing development and land management. It will actively promote the execution of sustainable human settlement projects within the city, working in tandem with relevant authorities and vital shelter agencies.
Within the framework of the DCHO, several divisions will operate, including Administrative and Support Services, Technical Planning and Development Management, Estate Management, Accounts Management, and Homeowners and Community Development.
"With the creation of the Davao City Housing Department, we now grant this office an additional budget and staff necessary to be able to focus on the dream of Dabawenyos to have a house," Councilor Augusto Javier "Javi" Campos, congratulating Ungab on the approval of the resolution and ordinance.
