THE Davao City Water District (DCWD) offers tips on how to conserve water for the El Niño season.

In the May 2 Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) advisory, they forecasted that there is an 80 percent chance of El Niño occurring in the country for the months of June, July, and August until the first quarter of 2024.

In relation to the advisory, DCWD believes that several areas in the country may experience droughts and dry spells due to high temperatures.

In their Facebook post, DCWD shared some tips to mitigate the impact of El Niño.

First is to always wash your hands and turn off the faucet when you're lathering the soap and only turn it on when you need to wash the soap off.

Stay hydrated and drink water using a glass instead of drinking it straight from the faucet. They also reminded consumers to store water in clean and covered containers to avoid contamination.

When cleaning your home you may use disinfectant or alcohol in areas that do not need water.

Soak hard-to-wash dishes in soapy water to avoid extensive usage of water. If a water interruption occurs, make sure to close all faucets to avoid water wastage upon resumption of water supply.

Also, avoid using water extensively like taking long showers, using water pools, and taking long showers.

If given the chance, save rainwater for activities that do not need potable water such as cleaning the house and backyards; washing vehicles, laundry, rags, and carpets; bathing pets, and watering plants.

Check your water pipelines for potential leaks, and immediately repair the damage or replace the area in which the damage is irreversible.

DCWD reminds everyone that during the dry season "make every drop count". RGP
