A YEAR after being elected into office, most Dabawenyos have declined their trust in the Philippine national leaders, according to the recent University of Mindanao-Institute of Popular Opinion (UM-IPO) survey.
The survey was conducted from June 7 to 13, a year after the national and local elections. The survey targeted 1,200 respondents from three congressional districts in Davao City.
All five national leaders from the executive, legislative, and judiciary branches of the government suffered a trust rating decline from Dabawenyos, according to the survey.
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. garnered a +1 net trust rating this year, which can be interpreted as "alarming", compared to "good, very good" +49.5 last year, while Vice-President Sara Duterte recorded a "good" +49 trust rating this year compared to last year's "excellent" +78.1.
Meanwhile, Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri recorded an "alarming" 0 trust rating this year compared to last year's +16.7 "moderate level", while Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo recorded -3 this year compared to 19.5 last year.
As for the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Philippines Martin Romualdez, it recorded a "very alarming" -19 trust rating.
"Sampling was set at 95 percent confidence level and 2.5 percent margin of error," the institute said in a statement.
The decline of trust can be attributed to high expectations of Dabawenyos during the elections, but through the months, the elected officials had faced certain issues that made their trust "fell down a little bit".
"Siyempre ang mga tao noon kaka-elect lang nila (Back then people have just elected these officials) so they have high expectations, theories of psychology especially in marketing will dictate us, but once we did not subscribe pa to a specific person, or product or service, mataas talaga yung expectation natin (we have high expectations)," UM-IPO specialist John Vianne Murcia said during the Kapehan sa Dabaw at SM City Davao, July 17.
"But once we experience it we will evaluate them in a satisfaction level so usually mas bababa (it is much lower) siya, but we do not expect drastic drop in there," Murcia added.
