THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Davao Region announced that the Maa Flyover is expected to be completed by 2027.
Dean Ortiz, DPWH-Davao spokesperson, shared during a media forum on November 27, 2024, at Ayala Malls Abreeza that the entire project should be finished by late 2026 or early 2027. However, some portions are facing delays due to issues with the Road Right of Way (RROW).
Ortiz explained that the RROW problems have slowed progress but assured that immediate portions of the structures are secured. Additionally, the relocation of utility poles from telecommunications companies is another challenge that will take time to resolve.
The flyover project involves six lanes at Maa Diversion. Initially, two lanes were taken for construction, leaving only four. DPWH now needs to acquire one more lane for construction work, meaning they must widen an additional lane to ensure the carriageway has four lanes and two above the bridge.
DPWH aims to complete the flyover structure by the first quarter of 2026. Once it is accessible to vehicles, work will shift to the lanes beneath the bridge. Construction is currently focused on the 11th pier, with the last pier to be completed in the coming weeks. Afterward, eight girders will be installed to finish the bridge structure.
Ortiz also said that cementing of the concrete slabs is underway, but completion of the bridge does not mean the entire project will be finished. The approach to the bridge still needs to be constructed, and portions of the lanes impacted by the bridge will need to be widened. RGP
