A 25-YEAR-OLD man died after being caught in a hydraulic cutting machine at a junk shop in Purok 13, Urban, Barangay Bato, Toril, Davao City, around 5:30 p.m. on February 24, 2025.
According to an initial police investigation, the victim had visited the junk shop and spoke with his nephew, Andy Ajos Maratas, a 33-year-old machine operator.
Andy said they talked for about 10 minutes before he left to eat.
When Andy returned 20 minutes later, he found Jowe trapped in the hydraulic cutter, which had been inactive for months. The victim was severely injured, with a severed arm and no signs of life.
Andy immediately sought help and informed Jowe’s wife.
The victim’s wife shared that Jowe had been struggling with feelings of worthlessness due to unemployment.
Police found no signs of foul play but continued to investigate to determine the exact cause of death. JPC
