TO PROMOTE passenger safety and well-being, the National Public Transport Coalition-Van Rental Group (NPTC-VRG) has announced mandatory drug testing for 326 of its members—drivers and operators—scheduled from January 22 to 24, 2025.
Bryan F. Manguiob, NPTC-VRG Operations Head, revealed that the drug tests will be conducted at the group’s office on Iñigo St., Bo. Obrero, Bajada, Davao City. This initiative is aligned with the group’s efforts to uphold professionalism and safety within the public transport sector.
The NPTC-VRG fully supports the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) "Stop Road Crash" campaign, which aims to reduce road accidents and enhance passenger safety. The program is being carried out in collaboration with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTRFB) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
In an interview aired live via RMN Davao, Manguiob said that drug use among drivers is a leading cause of road accidents. By implementing this drug testing program, the group aims to ensure that drivers are fit for duty, thereby prioritizing passenger safety.
The initiative also aims to reassure passengers that they can trust the safety of the transportation services, knowing that the drivers are drug-free and capable of providing a secure ride to their destinations.
The drug testing initiative is a proactive step to reduce road risks and reinforce the group’s commitment to passenger safety.
The NPTC-VRG has assured the public that it will continue to monitor and improve service standards, to provide a safer, more reliable commuting experience nationwide.
As the testing takes place over the next few days, officials are hopeful the results will reflect the coalition’s dedication to ensuring the safety of both drivers and passengers traveling in and around Davao City. DEF
