THE Malacañang Palace has not yet issued an official announcement declaring March 17, 2025 as a special non-working holiday for Davao City, despite the city government's request submitted as early as the first week of February.
Dabawenyos are still awaiting confirmation as the city’s month-long founding anniversary celebration formally opens on March 1.
On January 28, 2025, the 20th Davao City Council passed a resolution urging the Office of the President to declare March 17, 2025, as a special non-working holiday in celebration of the 88th Araw ng Davao.
The resolution also included a request for August 15, 2025 to be declared Indigenous People’s Day in connection with the Kadayawan sa Davao Festival.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod confirmed that the resolution was sent to the Office of the President on February 5, with delivery completed on February 6.
The month-long celebration is expected to feature a wide range of cultural, historical, and civic activities that showcase the vibrant traditions and achievements of Dabawenyos.
These events not only celebrate the city’s rich history but also honor its progress, resilience, and the unity of its people.
