THE Office of the President, through Proclamation No. 806, has declared March 7, 2025, as a Special Non-Working Holiday in the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos) in celebration of the city’s 27th Founding Anniversary.
“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the Island Garden City of Smal be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies,” Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin said.
The proclamation was signed on February 25, 2025.
The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Samal has organized multiple events for its founding anniversary. On February 27, the office offered free birth registration and held a tree planting activity in Barangay Peñaplata, as well as a coastal cleanup in Barangay Tambo on February 28.
The city also hosted a firefighting combat challenge, an invitational chess tournament, and a billiards tournament on March 2.
To kick off the festivities, the city conducted its Misa Pasalamat, Pag-Abli sa Kasaulugan, local arts contests, hook and line fishing competitions, and the State of the City Address by Igacos Mayor Al David T. Uy.
On March 4, there will also be the Kasalan sa Bayan, Rescuelympics, Tourism Day, and the turnover and blessing ceremony of the public market.
By March 5, the highly anticipated Binibining Island Garden City of Samal 2025 Coronation Night will take place. On the same day, other events include a bloodletting drive, Trabaho ta Uy, National Agencies Day, an Agri-Trade Fair, the Presyo Diskwento Groundbreaking Ceremony of the Bulk Water Project, and the Blessing of the Samal Island City College Facade.
Other events include the Game Fowl Show and Exhibit 2025, the Philippine Oriental Breeders Association (POBA) Oriental Fowl Show and Expo 2025, Enviro-Fiesta for Kids, an Eco-Trashion Show, a Billiard Tournament, and the Pasidungog Pasalamat Banwa Awards that are scheduled on March 6.
Capping the celebration on March 7 are the Pamukaw sa Kadalanan, the Inter-Barangay Basketball Tournament, the Parada sa Isla, and the culmination event, which will feature a fireworks display and a live band performance. RGP
