TO insert January in May is improbable, when we speak of the Gregorian calendar we have been using since 1582. This was my first reaction looking at the banners hanging in almost all overpasses in the city saying "January on May".
In my mind, it is only the controlling Dutertes that always have the gamely freedom to hang whatever they want in viaducts. Only then I realize that it's not the month but the presidential daughter-in-law January Navares-Duterte egged for the mid-term election.
January is the better half of resigned Vice Mayor Paulo "Pulong" Duterte. Pulong and January have a common entrance in politics. Both started as barangay chairman of their vote-rich bailiwick Barangay Catalunan. Pulong in his time became an ABC president, so as January who entered politics on October 2013 as barangay chairman and took the ABC presidency by December of the same year. In fact up to now, she is in hold-over capacity because no one dared to vie for the position.
On August 17, Pulong and January were on the limelight during the mass oath-taking ceremony of the Hugpong ng Pagbabago (NHP) held at the SMX convention center. Hugpong ng Pagbabago is founded by January's sister-in-law, Mayor Sara Duterte.
January is an estimable timber for the coming mid-term elections. And it is harmless to say that she is being groomed by the Dutertes. She could regain the chair Pulong abandoned few months ago amidst of the controversy dragging down his reputation. Pulong was out of political view for the past seven months since he vacated his post as vice mayor.
January could also represent the second district if she chooses to or at least stay in the city council.
January Navares married presidential son Paolo Duterte in December 2010. They are blessed with two kids – Sabina and Uno. abrigodann@gmail.com
