DAVAO City has been renowned as among the cleanest cities in the Philippines. This is true if you compare it to other major urban cities in the country. However, it is sad to note that some of its residents do not know how to keep it clean. We have written about Davao City's garbage problem multiple times already but we do not also want to stop writing about it. It is important for Dabawenyos to know that if they keep their eyes wide open, litter is everywhere. It is sad to see the scatter litter around town considering that the city has employed necessary measures to keep its roads clean. Every day, the cleaners hired by the city sweep the sidewalks and pick up the little trash scattered on the ground. Sadly, their efforts are in vain as pedestrians and commuters continue to litter everywhere. For example, we published a photo where those who spent time along the coastal road have littered trash near the coast. A very disgusting sight to see. In Roxas Avenue, people also leave trash in front of the bank and convenience store at a big university in the city. A trash bin has been placed beside ATMs but is empty. The trash, instead of being thrown into the bin, is surrounding the bin. If we Dabawenyos want to continue to claim that Davao City is still among the cleanest in the country, we have to do our part in keeping it clean. This means that we have to throw our trash properly. Trash goes into the trash bin not on the floor. "Basura mo, itapon mo (It's your trash, you throw it)" is a popular saying. We see it on signages wherever we go.
