AROUND 10,000 security personnel from different agencies, including the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), were deployed on Monday, October 23, to serve in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) in the region slated on Oct. 30, 2023.
The send-off ceremony was conducted at the Police Regional Office-Davao (PRO-Davao) parade grounds.
Earlier this month, PRO-Davao spokesperson Maj. Catherine Dela Rey said in the AFP-PNP Press Corps Southern Mindanao press conference that they will update on the number of personnel to be deployed depending on the concern of a certain area.
“Magdagdag gihapon ta pero magadepende gihapon na sa concern sa area pero so far hapsay man ang dagan sa atoang eleksyon dinhia tungod kana usab sa collaboration sa atoang mga security personnel para ma-ensure nga safe ug peaceful gyud ang atoang umaabot nga eleksyon (We will continue to add but it will depend on the concern of the area but so far our election here is going smoothly because of the collaboration of our security personnel to ensure that our upcoming election is safe and peaceful),” Dela Rey said.
As announced during the ceremony, the breakdown would be 7,288 forces coming from the PRO-Davao, 3,195 from the 10th Infantry Division, and 139 from the Philippine Coast Guard, a total of 10,622.
On the other hand, Commission on Elections-Davao Region (Comelec-Davao) acting regional director lawyer Gay Enumerables affirmed during the press conference after the ceremony that they have already collaborated with the Department of Education-Davao Region (DepEd-Davao) for the teachers who will serve for the BSKE.
“[We are] Super ready for the distribution of election paraphernalia on the election day and earlier before the election,” she said.
In Davao Region, Comelec and PRO-Davao said that there are 11 barangays identified as “areas of concern,” 10 of which are in Davao del Sur.
These are the barangays of Kapatagan and Tres de Mayo in Digos; Litos, Tanwalang, and Talas in Sulop; Tamlangon and Poblacion in Matanao; Maibo in Magsaysay; Aplaya and Clib in Hagonoy. The last barangay is Ompao in Tarragona in Davao Oriental. DEF
