THE Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office-Davao Region (DSWD-FO-Davao) has distributed food assistance worth ₱500,000 to families affected by severe flooding and landslides in Malita, Davao Occidental.
According to situation reports, Malita is the hardest-hit municipality in the region due to the recent weather disturbance. As of December 27, 2024, the DSWD has delivered food packs valued at ₱541,070 to 887 families in the area.
The ongoing surge of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) in Southeastern Mindanao has displaced 2,586 families, or 10,348 individuals, across 11 barangays in Davao Occidental. Region-wide, an additional 769 families have been reported as displaced.
The Office of Civil Defense-Davao Region (OCD-Davao) has assured its readiness to support emergency teams and relief efforts while continuing to monitor the situation.
OCD-Davao is disseminating updates through various communication platforms, including Viber, Messenger, email, SMS, and social media.
Meanwhile, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau-Davao Region (MGB-Davao) has issued a Regional Geohazard Threat Advisory. The agency warned that areas prone to flooding and landslides should remain on high alert due to the ITCZ’s impact. It emphasized the need for vigilance even in locations not classified as high-risk, particularly in areas at the base of hill slopes with known ground cracks,
locations near the crown of old or active landslides, and roadsides with slopes modified or steepened by construction.
Authorities urge residents to exercise caution and prioritize safety as adverse weather conditions persist. DEF
