THE Public Employment Services Office-Davao City (Peso-Davao) bared that the ordinance aimed at creating more job opportunities for senior citizens is now with the City Legal Office. Once approved, it will be introduced to the 20th City Council.
“As of now, naa me gina[-lobby nga] ordinance, kasi we have two company partners na willing to deploy for senior citizens na able pa to work kay nakita nila sa other country okay pa gyud, kaya pa gyud (As of now, we have an ordinance in place because we have two company partners who are willing to employ senior citizens who are still able to work, as they have seen in other countries that seniors are still capable),” she said.
Llibeth Pantinople, Peso-Davao manager, shared during the ISpeak media forum on April 3, 2025, that two large food chains are willing to hire senior citizens capable of working, following positive examples from other countries. These companies are ready to sign a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) once the ordinance is passed.
He then urged the Local Government Unit (LGU) to expand job opportunities for senior citizens.
On July 9, 2024, Mahipus shared that their committee has been reviewing the city's work program, with two fast-food chains agreeing to hire senior citizens.
He said that as long as seniors are still capable, they should be given work. He added that senior citizens would have no trouble working in these fast food chains, as their tasks would include taking orders, serving food and drinks, and other similar duties.
As of 2024, the Social Welfare Operation Division reported there are approximately 170,000 senior citizens in Davao City. RGP
