THE City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro)-Parks and Playground Division has announced the upcoming opening of Roxas Greenway Park but is considering relocating vendors from the Roxas Night Market to maintain cleanliness.
Engr. Juancho Dagasohan, head of Cenro’s Parks and Playground Division, said during the ISpeak media forum on February 13, 2025, that the park is set to open in the first quarter of 2025, ideally before Araw ng Dabaw.
With a budget of approximately P40 million, construction began in late 2023 and was completed in the last quarter of 2024.
The park will feature a fitness area, ornamental plants, trees, and seating areas, adding to Davao City’s 28 existing parks.
However, Dagasohan noted that the presence of night market vendors could affect the park’s maintenance.
To address this, they are considering relocating vendors to the Bago Aplaya Esplanade parking lot along the Davao City Coastal Road or realigning them to ensure sufficient space between the market, the road, and vendors.
He said that the relocation plan is still under discussion and that Cenro is coordinating with the City Economic Enterprise (CEE) to ensure vendors help maintain the park’s cleanliness.
“Naningkamot gyud ang siyudad ug ang Cenro sa pagpalambo permi sa mga parks (The city government and Cenro are continuously working to improve our parks),” he said.
The Roxas Night Market remains a popular tourist attraction, known for its affordable street food and vibrant atmosphere. RGP
