PANABO CITY — A 75-year-old man sustained a head injury after slipping on the tiled floor of the Panabo Premium Market's fish section.
In a statement, the Panabo City Economic Enterprise Management and Development Office (CEEMDO) said the incident happened around 6 a.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025.
The office revealed that the septuagenarian slid on smooth tiles despite the presence of warning signs and the conduct of regular cleaning in the area. The old man suffered an abrasion on the back of his head,
The office explained that the combination of smooth tiles and rainy weather contributed to the hazardous condition of the market's flooring.
"Despite precautionary measures, including clear signage warning shoppers about the slippery floor and regular mopping by cleaning staff, the rain caused moisture buildup, making the tiles more slippery," CEEMDO said.

Following the incident, the management swiftly scheduled maintenance work to roughen the tile surfaces from March 2 to March 7, 2025, during evening hours.
The office also announced that it is considering permanent replacement of the current tiles with rough-textured ones to further enhance the safety of the market goers in moisture-prone areas.
"The safety of our market patrons remains our top priority. We are committed to implementing long-term solutions to ensure a safer shopping experience," the statement added.
The management urged market goers to exercise caution, especially during rainy weather, while they continue to improve the market's safety features. RGL
