TANS Bernas bested his rivals to crown himself champion in the Davao Tenpin Bowlers Association (Datba) December monthly finals tournament held at SM Lanang Premier Bowling Center.
Bernas climbed from fourth place to the top spot, shocking twice-to-beat AJ Galendez in the step-the-ladder finals of the bowlfest organized by the Datba.
Bernas toppled Galendez, 202-183, in their first encounter then followed it up with a tight 172-171 win in the second game.
Bernas was ranked fourth after the six-game qualifying round, hitting a total of 1,168 pinfalls while Galendez placed first (1,190), Paul Palacio (1,184) second and Jojo Flores (1,180) third.
In the step-the-ladder finals, Bernas subdued Flores, 185-177, then he eliminated Palacio, 195-177, to arrange a championship showdown with Galendez.
Bernas received P7,000 while Galendez took home P4,000. Palacio and Flores pocketed P2,000 and P1,000, respectively.
Monthly champions will advance to the Bowler of the Year 2018 finals slated on January 13. Bigger cash prizes await winners. (MLSA)
