A BIGGER and better Felcris Centrale second 3-on-3 Street Jam is all set on July 21 and 22 at the mall's Alfresco Activity Center along Quimpo Boulevard, Davao City.
Felcris Centrale president Clark Lawton Yap, in a press conference Tuesday, June 26, said, "We are expecting more teams. The cash prizes will be the same as last year, it will be spread out in all categories but there will be more freebies to be given away."
He said the "No to drugs, yes to sports"-themed tournament aims to support local athletes, particularly basketball players.
"We started planning last year and since with the new K to 12 program of DepEd (Deparment of Education) where some schools have started having summer break in June and July, we plan to cater players and hold the second edition in July," Yap said, adding that a 3-on-3 meet is easier to organize and that more players need not have to be really competitive to be able to join.
He was joined by SDD-CMO sports and games coordinator Daniel Saguilo and Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) education committee member Billy Cruzada in the press conference.
Cruzada said categories include the mini (born 2006-2008), jayvees (born 2002-2005), juniors (born 1998-2001) and open division (born 1997 and below). The latter division will not accept commercial A players. A side event for celebrities, media and digital influencers will also be entered.
Cruzada, who is tournament director, said the SBP-sanctioned event will observe Fiba rules with a modified clocking system.
"Each bracket will have four teams and they will play the single round-robin to determine the top two teams that will advance to the second level knockout stage en-route to the quarterfinals, semifinals and championship matches," Cruzada said.
Saguilo, who represented SDD-CMO chief Mikey Aportadera, said the city government will provide security, Central 911 and help in the promotion of the P80,000-rich cagefest.
Gelyn Artuque, Felcris Centrale's leasing officer, added that aside from team winners, most valuable players will also receive cash prizes and freebies.
A three-point and four-point contest for spectators will spice up the tournament backed up by Smart and Red Bull.
Team registration fee is pegged at P2,500 inclusive of two jerseys each for the players. Forms are available at SDD-CMO and at Felcris Centrale admin office. Deadline of registration is on July 15.
