OUTSTANDING athletes from the recent Philippine National Games (PNG) 2018 in Cebu City and Palarong Pambansa 2018 in Vigan City will be feted by the City Government of Davao through the Sports Development Division-City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO) on August 14 at The Royal Mandaya Hotel.
SDD-CMO executive program director Cindy Cruz, in a Facebook interview with Sun.Star Davao yesterday, said some 220 athletes will receive medals from the office of SDD-CMO chief Michael Denton Aportadera.
"We will award the gold, silver and bronze medalists of the recent national competitions but it is the mayor's (Sara Duterte-Carpio) prerogative to give the cash incentives to the outstanding atheletes," she said.
Cruz said it is vital to recognize and give honor to athletes especially those who have excelled in their respective sports.
"It is the primary thrust of the local government unit to bring forth a genuine sports development program," she said, adding that athletes who give honor to the city deserve to be recognized.
