EMAR Human Environmental College participants showcased agility, grace and teamwork to emerge champion in the Unit 5 Prisaa Meet cheerdance competition at the Flying V Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) Gym on Wednesday, September 5.
Emar, coached by Geylord Tobes, got the nods of judges Dr. Guillermo Dimaligalig, Ryan Ibloguen and Fritz Jumawid who all ranked the 30-member team from Matina Crossing first to win the gold medal.
Tobes, in an interview with VoxPop Davao, said, "Wala jud mi mag-expect mudaog kay two weeks ra biya mi magpraktis. Ang amoa lang enjoy the moment (We did not expect to win because we only prepared for two weeks. We just wanted to enjoy the moment)."
The Southern Philippines Baptist Theological Seminary, Inc., located in Puan, placed second while Independent Liberty Baptist Academy in Talomo and Amigo School of Calinan finished third and fourth, respectively.
Meanwhile, Davao Doctors College (DDC) swept the golds in vocal solo and vocal duet competitions. The University of Mindanao (UM) settled for silver in vocal solo while host RMC salvaged the bronze.
The Holy Spirit Academy of Calinan bagged the silver in vocal duet while RMC ended up with a bronze.
Unit 5 Prisaa Meet chairperson and Emar president Ma. Lita Montalban, before declaring the opening of the sportsfest, dared coaches to set example in values.
She also said that referees' decision is final. "If you want to protest, please send a formal letter."
Representatives from Department of Education and RMC also graced the opening ceremonies.
Unit 5 has 18 member schools.
The meet serves as qualifier for the upcoming Davao City Athletic Association Meet and Davao Region Prisaa Meet. Slots and medals are at stake in different sports.
