HELLO golf world! Have you noticed, here in Davao, we are experiencing very good golfing weather these past few days. Sad to say though that the northern part of the country isn't doing so well. Prayers to all who are affected by the heavy rains and flooding.
Let us change the mood. Think happy thoughts! Hole-in-One prizes and winning them!
Last July 17, Tuesday, I witnessed the turnover of hole-in-prizes to one very lucky golfer from Butuan City. His name is Ivan Nakila. He arrived in Davao with his wife, Daisy, and son, Shaldan Rey, to receive not one but three big prizes— P million cash, a brand new Tata Manza, and P100,000 worth of Phoenix Petroleum cards.
OMG! It is like making a hole-in-one three times in a one-day golf tournament!
Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Chairman Domingo Uy, along with SVP for External Affairs, Business Development and Security Atty. Raymond Zorilla, Pioneer Insurance First VP for Mindanao Branches Richmond Alejo, Phoenix Pulse Technology Amateur Golf Tournament Organizer Liloh Evangelista, Phoenix-Udenna Insurance Brokers VP for Operations Ernie Ortonio, and Phoenix Corporate Affairs Manager Ben Sur turned over the prizes to the very lucky winner.
The Phoenix PULSE Technology Amateur Golf Tournament was held at the Cebu Country Club last June 22, 2018.
As you know, there are usually four par 3's in an 18-hole golf course. Each golfer has four chances of making a hole-in-one. Ivan Nakila made a hole-in-one on the 4th and final par 3. He said he used a 22-degree lofted rescue wood. I was chatting with Ivan, and I asked him how he did on the first three par 3's. He said his ball did not even land on the green.
But on that 4th par 3, he hit his ball so well and he said he felt like everything happened in slow motion. His ball landed about four feet from the hole and rolled straight towards and hole and went in. WOW! And then I asked him how he played after that hole, and he said he didn't really score well anymore. Who cares, right? He won 3 big prizes already.
What a lucky golfer! And to the ones who have doubts about making a hole-in-one EVER...FYI, Ivan Nakila just started playing golf last year—January of 2017. That just proves that making a hole-in-one is not just about skill, it is pure luck. His wife Daisy said she was the one who convinced him to start playing golf. I guess we know now who the recipient of the P1 million is. Hehe. And Ivan said he will give the car to his son, Shaldan Rey.
Once again, Congratulations and Thank you bery much to the Phoenix Petroleum Philippines family, especially to PPP Chairman Domingo Uy and PPP President Dennis Uy, and to the tournament sponsors, for making this prestigious event possible. It was a huge success. We look forward to your succeeding tournaments. Tournament Chairperson Liloh Evangelista and daughter Willa, congratulations too, job well done!
