CEBU CITY -- Two Davao City pairs advanced to the next round after beating their respective opponents in the Philippine National Games (PNG) 2018 men's tennis competition held at the City Green Tennis Court here on Tuesday, May 22.
Zeus Elmer Derecho and Gabriel Perez overwhelmed Reynaldo Pioquinto and Alexis Dumaguing, Jr. of La Union, 6-2, 6-3, in men's doubles event of the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta)-sanctioned meet.
The other Dabawenyo tandem of Butch dela Cruz and Jonathan Bautista Palac crushed Felix Domingo III and Ronnie Dela Cruz also of La Union, 6-2, 6-1, to stay alive in the meet.
Over at the Robinson's Galleria, Davao City IMs John Marvin Miciano and Oliver Dimakiling along with NM Alexander Lupian shared the sixth to 19th place with three points each after four rounds of the chess open standard competition.
Miciano lost to IM Paulo Bersamina of Tandag City in the third round but eked out a win over IM Kim Steven Yao of Cebu Province in the fourth.
Dimakiling, for his part, also lost in the third round to Cebu City's NM Edsel Montoya but demolished Lupian in the all-Davao fourth round match.
In women's standard event, Dabawenyas Dhona Yngayo and Rowelyn Joy Acedo each earned 2.5 points each.
