PARTICIPANTS are in for an exciting adventure as Basecamp and Bagani Active Gear hold the 4th Samal 50 Ultra Trail Run on October 13 and 14 at the Casa Estrella Beach Camp in the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos).
"Bag-ong rota karon so bag-ong experience, bag-ong sights na makita og bag-ong challenge (The new route will give new trail runners a different experience, new beautiful sights to see and new challenges)," Basecamp's Karla Degrano said during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at The Annex of SM City Davao Thursday, September 6.
She said this year, the route covers 80 percent trail and 20 percent road.
The event features the 50K and 22K divisions.
Entries from Bukidnon, Davao City, Panabo City, Manila, Cebu City and Igacos.
Degrano said that medals are at stake for the winners while surprise items from sponsors may also be given to them.
"Wala may money involved. Passion ra jud ni kay bihira ra ang mga trail run events diri. Ang sa mga participants nagabalik man sila kay lain-lain ang rota unya masuroy nila ang Samal og masaka ang highest peak sa isla ang Puting Bato (We are not awarding cash. This is just a passion for us because trail running is rare here. Participants often return due to the new route every year, they can go around Samal and reach Puting Bato)," she added.
They have coordinated with the Igacos City Hall and City Tourism Operations Office. Security and rescue teams are in place.
Registration is pegged at P1,700 for 22K and P2,200 for 50K inclusive of race vest, race bib, finisher's medal and post race meal.
Interested participants, however, are required to bring "mandatory gears" like fully-charged cellphone, head lamp, whistle, first aid kit, personal medication, trail food, water carrier and light jacket.
Registration closes October 11.
