Tri kids on Sunday

THIS year's edition of the Kadayawan Triathlon 2018, which drew the most participants in the kids' category, will kick off on Sunday, August 19, at the Villa Josefina in Toril, Davao City.

Triathlon Association of the Philippines (Trap) Mindanao representative and race director Eustaquio Savellano, in Thursday's Davao Sportswriters Association Forum held at The Annex of SM City Davao, said majority of the 216 registrants belong to the kids: ages four to 15 years old.

The kids age group has three clusters including the four to six years old (50-meter swim, 1.5-kilometer bike, 300m run), seven to nine years old (100m swim, 3K bike, 1K run), 10-12 years old (200m swim, 6K bike, 300m run) and 13-15 years old (400m swim, 9K bike, 3K run).

The adults 16 years old and above has novice (400m swim, 9K bike, 3K run) and sprint (750m swim, 20K bike, 5K run).

The race, organized by the Tri-Right Mindanao, an organization of coaches of Mindanao that aims to develop the grassroots athletes, also serves as preparation for the much-awaited Alaska Ironkids and Ironman 70.3 Davao slated next year.

Coach and swim marshal Marjun Antoque assured the security and safety of the kids.

Medals and trophies, courtesy of the Sports Development Division-City Mayor's Office, await the winners.
