THE University of Mindanao (UM) Lady Wildcats was unbeaten in the double elimination format competition to emerge champion in the Davao City Prisaa Meet 2019 volleyball competition at the UM Matina gym Sunday.
UM Lady Wildcats outlasted Jose Maria College (JMC), 25-23, 25-15, 15-25, 25-22, in their second game of the women's volleyball event.
This came on the heels of UM boucing back from a first set defeat to survive past JMC, 20-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-22 in their first meeting Saturday.
The Joaquin Sarabia-coached Lady Wildcats also scored a twin kill against Davao Doctors College (DDC), 25-16, 25-11, 25-20 in the second game after whipping the latter, 25-13, 25-11, 25-10 in their Saturday clash.
Sarabia, in an interview, said: "Tulo lang man ka teams so double elimination. Napildi namo kaduha ang DDC og JMC (We're just three teams so we played a double elimination. We defeated twice DDC and JMC)."
He also said that in the upcoming Region 11 Prisaa Meet 2019 in Tagum City, he will keep eight of his 12 players.
"Mukuha ko tulo ka players from JMC (I will pick up three JMC players)," he said.
Star spiker Glenda Gregg Agang, team captain, led the cast for the UM Lady Wildcats.
Sarabia, also Prisaa Mindanao executive director, said Digos is defending champion in the regionals. He shared that UM Davao defeated Digos in the 2018 regional meet but lost the title, adding, "Nag-triple tie man gud, Digos ang nakalusot (We figured in a triple tie and Digos pulled through)."
In men's division, defending champion UM led the team standings with four straight wins. UM beat DMMA College of Southern Philippines, DDC, Emar Human Environmental College and Agro-Industrial Foundation College of the Philippines. DCSP and Agro each toted 2-1 win-loss card while DDC had 1-3 and Emar with 0-4.
Games will resume on Saturday as other events will have yet to start.
