GABRIEL Velasco, 2018 Datba bowler of the year, topped the Datba weekly qualifying tournament held at SM Lanang Premier Bowling Center over the weekend.
The 23-year-old Velasco, a Davao Doctors College graduating nursing student, toppled 664 pinfalls after three games with only nine handicap.
His feat earned him a spot in the monthly finals.
Celso Garcia, with 15 handicap, settled for the runner-up honors by hitting 628 pinfalls while third-placer Dario Beloy, whose handicap is 28, rolled 624 pins.
The top three placers received cash prizes of P1,000, P500 and P300.
Ivan Awid (619) and Ronald Martin (608) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the event organized by Davao Tenpin Bowlers Association (Datba) as qualifying for the monthly finals that offers bigger cash prizes with trophies.
A total of 19 pintopplers competed in the recent bowlfest.
