STO. Tomas National High School’s (STNHS) Kheendryl Loise Patingan and Jaydee Deguito clinched 3rd Prize and Honorable Mention, respectively, in the Junior Solo Rondalla category of the 2024 National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA).
Kheendryl, a Grade 11 Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) student, and the recipient of the 2024 Gawad Husay sa Sining ng Pagtutog ng Instrumento, the highest award given to the topmost outstanding Special Program in the Arts STNHS-Instrumental Arts student, showcased her prowess in playing the banduria with Finale from Mozart's Serenade in Bb Major, arranged by Maestro Nelson Espejo.
Meanwhile, Jaydee, a G10 SPA-Instrumental Arts student, and the 2nd prize winner of the Junior Solo Rondalla of the 2024 Musikahan sa Tagum Competition, a NAMCYA, Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) counterpart in Mindanao, performed in her banduria the Mandolin Sonata, also arranged by Maestro Nelson Espejo.
Both a repeater in the NAMCYA in different categories, Kheendryl and Jaydee, together with their Instrumental Arts specialist-coach Jaymart C. Albite, etched the name of STNHS-Sining Cuerdas Rondalla on the Philippine music map of young artists for two consecutive years.
For this year's edition which was held at the Metropolitan Theater, Manila City, Kheendryl was accompanied by Hyacinth Micah Galacinao on octavina and Sylver Kyven Manalo on guitar while Jaydee was accompanied by Jhieyhan Macaraan on octavina and Harvey Piodos on guitar, all playing the contest piece Sitsiritsit (A Fantasy for Rondalla), arranged by Dr. Alfredo S. Buenaventura, and the their respective chosen pieces.
Designated as the Philippine national youth development program for music through Republic Act (RA) 11915, the NAMCYA, with its theme Salinlahing Musika continues its mission to discover outstanding musical talents through nationwide competitions and festivals designed for young Filipino musicians in all forms, styles and musical traditions in the country.
