THE City Government of Davao officially launched Pasko Fiesta 2024 on Thursday evening, November 28, at Rizal Park. The theme was "Stronger, Brighter, and Happier Together!"
The festivities began with the lighting of the giant Christmas tree, lanterns, and dazzling decorations at San Pedro Square, drawing crowds of joyful Dabawenyos.
Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte, represented by Vice Mayor J. Melchor Quitain, highlighted the significance of this year’s celebration as a testament to the city’s resilience and unity.
“Together, we have faced uncertainties, weathered challenges, and emerged stronger than ever. Let the spirit of the holiday season remind us that in the face of adversity, we can always rely on the determination and resilience that define us as people of Davao City,” he said.
The mayor also said that the continued solidarity of Dabawenyos brings joy and light to families and the community. He encouraged everyone to participate in the array of events prepared for this year’s Pasko Fiesta.
Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre, chairperson of the committee on tourism and beautification, called Pasko Fiesta a cherished tradition that unites the city during the holidays.
“From colorful lights and decorations, top performances showcasing our talent, these events blend competitive activities that bring joy and unity,” he said.
This year’s Pasko Fiesta highlights an enchanted woodland theme, with reindeer and magical forest displays outside City Hall.
A ₱50 million budget has been allocated for the festivities, which include beloved traditions such as the Parada sa Pasko and Banda Dasig. A new addition, Mugna sa Pasko, a Christmas costume competition, will debut on December 15.
Alejandre noted that the celebration underscores how Dabawenyos have triumphed over challenges, including political issues and natural disasters, through their solidarity and commitment to overcoming hardships. RGP
