THE Commission on Elections - Davao Region (Comelec-Davao) is urging Dabawenyos to accept the Voter's Information Sheet (VIS) amid reports that some residents outside the region are hesitant due to political concerns.
Lawyer Gay Enumerables, Comelec-Davao’s assistant regional director, reassured voters that the VIS is purely an election-related document and not linked to any petition, contrary to circulating rumors.
“May narinig kami na ayaw daw nilang tumanggap ng VIS kasi papirmahin daw sila and that would be used as some sort of petition to impeach the VP no it’s not, VIS yun from Comelec, basta from Comelec (We heard that some people refuse to accept the VIS because they think they’ll be asked to sign it for a petition to impeach the Vice President. That’s not true. The VIS is an official document from Comelec),” Enumerables clarified during the Kapehan sa Dabaw on Monday, March 31, 2025, at SM City Davao.
She explained that such refusals have been reported outside the Davao Region, where the VIS distribution has yet to begin. Comelec-Davao is still sorting the documents and will soon conduct a house-to-house distribution.
Enumerables said that signatures collected during distribution serve only as proof of receipt, ensuring that all 3 million registered voters in the region receive their VIS. She assured the public that Comelec has sufficient manpower for the task, as election officers can hire as many personnel as needed.
Residents should expect to receive their VIS soon, which includes details such as the voter’s name, precinct, barangay, school, list of candidates, and voting procedures. Comelec hopes this will make the voting process smoother.
She also clarified that Comelc has consistently distributed the VIS in past elections, except for one instance when Manila printed an incorrect list of candidates.
She also cautioned the public that any blank document requiring a signature without an accompanying VIS is not from COMELEC. She stressed that official VIS copies will be personally distributed by Comelec representatives and that voters are not required to visit barangay offices to claim them. RGP
