THE Iloilo City Council has asked the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to submit a comprehensive report on the status of road projects whose construction has been "very slow or delayed for no apparent reason."
Councilor Ely Estante, chairman of the committee on infrastructure, said the problem should be addressed immediately.
He said based on reports, "most of the businessmen are dismayed over the endless street digging and closure of many roads," as they affect the transport of goods, and movement of vehicles and human traffic.
"There were no delivery and trade because the vehicles were unable to go to the establishments," he said.
Estante said the business sector and the public are badly affected with the road constructions, prompting them to question as to why the projects were delayed.
Some of the delayed road construction projects are those on Arsenal, Quezon, and Jalandoni-Delgado streets.
Estante said the DPWH must identify in its report the projects that are delayed, the reasons, interventions being done, and the erring contractors.
"Let us do everything within our powers to make sure that the projects being implemented in the city are completed and timed for the benefit of our people and our city," Estante said.
