Mayor scouts lands for relocation sites

Published on

ILOILO City Mayor Jerry Treñas is now investing on possible properties for future relocation site development.

"We are now looking for land for urban poor. I already talked with Senator Franklin Drilon and National Housing Authority for the proposed establishment of housing units. The plan will be three to four stories to maximize space because lots are now expensive," Treñas said.

The mayor took to task newly-appointed Iloilo City Urban Poor Affairs Office chief Roy Firmeza to look into the process of establishing additional resettlement areas in the metropolis to address the problems of informal settlers.

Medium-rise buildings are now considered practical because of limited lot area in already congested city, and costly properties driven by rising demand of real estate and private developers.

The City Hall prohibits beneficiaries to transfer their awarded units to others. (PR)
