A REVAMP in President Rodrigo Duterte's Cabinet looms as some members have expressed intent to file their certificates of candidacy for the 2019 mid-term elections.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque Jr. revealed that at least six Cabinet officials are eyeing local and national posts next year.
He did not name the six Cabinet secretaries.
"There will be around six who might file their certificates of candidacy for national and local posts," the Palace official said.
The filing of certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the May 13, 2019 elections has been reset to October 11 to 17 from October 1 to 5.
Those holding appointive positions in government are deemed resigned from their respective posts when they file their COCs for the 2019 polls.
Duterte earlier floated the possibility that Roque, Special Assistant to President Christopher Lawrence Go, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, and Presidential Political Adviser Francis Tolentino were potential candidates for senator.
Asked when he would declare his bid for a Senate seat, Roque said, "We'll find out on October 17, 2018. I do not know honestly. I have not had a chance to meet with the President."
"I need to talk to him [because] he's my appointing authority. I decide (after) I talk to the President," the Palace official added.
When asked on who would be his possible replacement, Roque admitted that he was "easily replaceable."
"I'm easily replaceable," he said. "Dime a dozen po ang spokesperson. Huwag po kayong mag-alala (The position of a spokesperson is dime a dozen. Do not worry)." (VoxPop Philippines)
