A CARGO vessel collided with a foreign dredger in the waters off South Harbor Anchorage in Manila before dawn Thursday, July 8, 2021, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said.
In a statement, the PCG said its Marine Environmental Protection Force was preparing to install four segments of oil spill boom as an oil sheen has been observed around distressed cargo ship MV Palawan Pearl.
MV Palawan Pearl is half-submerged approximately 100 meters from Baseco Beach. It is carrying around 3,000 liters of diesel oil in its storage tank, 60 liters of engine oil and five liters of bilge oil, the PCG said.
The cargo ship collided with dredger BKM 104 at 2:10 a.m. Thursday. No one was hurt.
The BKM 104 is involved in the conduct of dredging and other development activity necessary for the construction of the New Manila Airport.
The PCG said it has deployed BRP Panglao to assess the situation and provide assistance to MV Palawan Pearl.
The two vessels have been advised to file a marine protest on the incident. (Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo / VoxPop Philippines)
