(UPDATED) The number of coronavirus infections in the Philippines went up to 12,718 Monday, May 18, after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 205 new cases.
The agency also recorded seven additional mortalities, bringing the death toll to 831 as of 4 p.m. Monday.
An additional 94 patients have recovered from the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), bringing the recoveries to 2,729.
Of the 205 new cases in the Philippines, 145 were from the National Capital Region or Metro Manila, which is on its third day of modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).
Central Visayas or Region 7, which includes the cities of Cebu and Mandaue, reported eight new cases while other regions reported 52 additional cases.
The cities of Cebu and Mandaue are still on enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) until May 31, 2020.
The rest of the country are under general community quarantine (GCQ), which allows public transport systems and certain businesses to resume operations.
Among overseas Filipinos, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Covid-19 cases reached 2,405, including eight new confirmed cases, two new recoveries, and two additional deaths in the Americas, Europe, and Middle East.
Covid-19 is caused by the highly infectious novel coronavirus or Sars-CoV-2.
This respiratory infection has killed 307,395 persons worldwide as of May 17. More than 4.5 million in over 200 countries have been infected. (With a report from JTM/VoxPop Philippines)
