PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has accepted the resignation of Communications Assistant Secretary Esther Margaux "Mocha" Uson, Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence Go confirmed on Wednesday, October 3.
Go's statement came shortly after Uson made a surprising move announcing her resignation before senators during the deliberation of the Presidential Communications Operations Office's (PCOO) proposed 2019 budget.
"Tanggap na po. Antayin na lang formal acceptance (It has been accepted. Let's just wait for the formal acceptance)," he said in a text message sent to Palace reporters.
Uson announced her decision to step down from office amid the several criticisms hounding her, including the lewd video of "pepederalismo" jingle and another mocking the deaf community.
Uson said her resignation was a "sacrifice" so the PCOO budget will be approved by Congress.
The budget deliberation was supposedly delayed because of her absence. Last month, Uson was in New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly as one of the country's representatives.
But Uson said her resignation was not the end. She expresed oppeness to seek a seat either at the Senate or at the House of Representatives.
"Open po tayo (We are open for it)," she said, when asked on the sidelines of the Senate budget deliberations if she plans in securing a seat in Congress in the 2019 mid-term polls.
Go said Malacañang respects Uson's decision.
"Nirerespeto po naman ang kanyang pagre-resign at nag-papasalamat rin kami kay Asec. Mocha sa kanyang naging serbisyo po sa gobyernong Duterte. Naging good ally po siya," he said.
