METRO Manila mayors have agreed to impose a curfew from 8 p.m to 5 a.m. while the region is under general community quarantine from August 19 to 31.
"Pinagkasunduan po ng lahat ng mayor na uniform po ang curfew mula po ngayong araw na ito (august 19, 2020) hanggang August 31, it will be 8 o'clock ng gabi hanggang 5 o'clock in the morning," Metro Manila Council chairman Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez said in a television interview.
Workers in industries allowed to operate are not covered by the curfew hours.
The curfew applies in all 16 cities in Metro Manila and in the town of Pateros.
The cities in Metro Manila, or National Capital Region, are Manila, Quezon, Caloocan, Las Piñas, Makati, Malabon, Mandaluyong, Marikina, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Parañaque, Pasay, Pasig, San Juan, Taguig, and Valenzuela.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the new curfew schedule is in line with the vow of Metro Manila mayors to impose stricter protocols as the economy opens.
Metro Manila is the epicenter of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) epidemic in the country, with 94,842 cases, more than half the total case count of 169,213.
The capital region was reverted to modified enhanced community quarantine in the past two weeks, but was placed under the less stringent GCQ again effective August 19. (VoxPop Philippines)
