THE Filipino Nurses United (FNU) on Saturday, November 6, 2021, balked over the reimposition of the suspension of deployment of healthcare workers abroad after the 6,500-ceiling was reached.
In a social media post, FNU said it disagreed with the reimposition by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) of the deployment ban for newly hired nurses, nursing aides and nursing assistants.
"Hopefully, nurses can be given the opportunity to find jobs abroad if necessary. #LiftHCWban," said FNU.
The group reiterated that it is imperative for the government to give nurses a reason to stay and find local employment opportunities.
"Here in the Philippines, we should be given employment that has living wages, offers job security, and sufficient benefits," said FNU.
Earlier in the week, the POEA reimposed the suspension of deployment of new hires for nurses, nursing aides and nursing assistants.
This was after the 6,500 annual deployment ceiling set by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases was reached.
The deployment cap was put in place in a bid to ensure a steady supply of medical frontliners in the country amid the Covid-19 pandemic. (HDT/VoxPop Philippines)
