THE Department of Transportation (DOTr) said the New Bohol (Panglao) Airport is on track for inauguration in October 2018.
As of July 31, the airport project was 92.14 percent complete, the DOTr said in a Facebook post.
"Everyone should be excited about Panglao airport. I am very excited. This is the kind of airport that we should be building, an airport that has regard for the environment and the future generations," said Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, who inspected the airport recently.
Under construction are the runway, passenger terminal, perimeter fence, and the sewerage treatment system, among others.
Dubbed the "Green Gateway to the World," the Panglao airport will be the country's first eco-airport.
It will primarily use natural ventilation. Solar panels will also be installed on the roof of the passenger terminal building. Solar power will provide around one-third of the airport's passenger terminal building energy requirement.
The terminal is designed for two million passengers, more than double the capacity of the Tagbilaran airport.
It will have three boarding bridges and a baggage handling system.
The apron can accommodate seven aircraft at one time, including large aircraft for international flights. (VoxPop Philippines from PR)
