CAMP Karingal, headquarters of the Quezon City Police District, has been placed on a three-day lockdown as a measure against the rising cases of novel coronavirus infection.
As of Monday, May 11, 14 police personnel have been found positive for the novel coronavirus, which causes the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Debold Sinas said there are 1,563 police personnel inside the Camp Karingal including those from Regional Supports Units.
Of the total personnel, 219 underwent target group Covid testing from April 25 to 29.
Of the 115 test results that were initially released, 14 were positive.
The 14 personnel have already been moved to the NCRPO Special Care Facility.
One of the 14 is a member of Joint Task Force-National Capital Region of the Philippine Army while the remaining 13 are elements of QCPD. Nine are Police Commissioned Officers while four are civilian personnel.
Of 13, three are assigned in QCPD police community precincts.
"Considering the fact that those who tested positive were previously tasked in the implementation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine in Quarantine Control Points, it was deemed necessary to immediately conduct preventive measures and reactionary protocol to ensure that the virus will not thrive and infect more of our frontline workers," Sinas said in a statement.
During the camp's lockdown, preventive measures such as intensive contact tracing; monitoring and evaluation of those who had direct contact with the patients, assessment on those who underwent Covid testing whether or not they have to undergo quarantine, determine and assessment of those who will be recommended and prioritized to undergo testing and decontamination of the Camp.
QCPD Director Ronnie Montejo will temporarily hold office at the Kamuning police station.
As of Sunday, 53 police personnel of the NCRPO have tested positive for the virus.
Of the figure, two are admitted in the hospital, 46 are in quarantine facilities while five were advised to undergo home quarantine.
The NCRPO said 88 personnel were identified to have direct contact with a confirmed case and will also have to undergo testing, 12 were Covid-19 suspect cases while 139 were probable cases. (VoxPop Philippines)
