A PREGNANT assistant state prosecutor at the Office of the Ombudsman was stabbed dead Monday noon, June 4, in Quezon City, Metro Manila, police said.
Madonna Joy Ednaco-Tanyag, who was five months pregnant, was about to board her vehicle in front of a lottery outlet along Visayas Avenue in Barangay Vasra at around 11:20 a.m. when the suspect arrived and stabbed her thrice.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Chief Superintendent Joselito Esquivel Jr. said based on initial investigation, said Tanyag was rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival at 12:04 p.m. Monday.
"Initially, robbery gone wrong," said Esquivel on the possible motive of the killing.
The QCPD said a person of interest was invited for questioning in connection with Tanyag's killing although he has yet to be identified.
Esquivel assured immediate action on the case following the call of Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales for the swift resolution of the case.
"The office will leave no stone unturned in solving . The office extends its deepest condolences to the family of ASP Tanyag," she said.
The victim's husband, in a Facebook post on March 11, took a photo of his wife working at 2 a.m. to "prosecute erring and corrupt officials."
The UP Manila Political Science Program, in a Facebook post, called for justice and an end to the "worsening climate of impunity" in the country.
