WORK in government offices and classes in all levels in Metro Manila were suspended starting 3 p.m. Monday, June 11, due to "inclement weather," Malacañang announced.
Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea signed Memorandum Circular 46, "suspending work in the executive department and classes in all levels."
The memorandum circular was issued upon the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
"Agencies of the government involved in the delivery of basic and health services, disaster preparedness, and other vital services shall continue with their operations," Medialdea said.
"We leave the suspension of work for private companies and offices to the sound discretion of their companies/employers," he added.
According to the state weather bureau's 11 a.m. advisory, monsoon rains would be experienced over Luzon and Western Visayas, particularly over the regions of Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon and Ilocos.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the southwest monsoon would also bring moderate to heavy rainshowers and thunderstorms over the said regions.
"Residents living in low lying areas and near mountainous slopes of the aforementioned areas are alerted against possible flash floods and landslides," it said.
Pagasa also warned of scattered light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms over the rest of Luzon and Western Visayas. (Ruth Abbey Gita/VoxPop Philippines)
