GOVERNOR Alfredo Marañon said he sees 2018 as a better year for the economy of Negros Occidental.
“The future of the province in 2018 is very bright. I see 2018 as better for Negros than this year,” he said.
Marañon emphasized there must be peace and security in the province because there are many investors interested in Negros Occidental.
“But if the infightings and ambush between government troopers and the rebels will continue, and peace and order won’t be achieved, the investors would not push through with their investments,” he added.
The governor pointed out that there can be more development if there is peace.
On the sugar industry, which is the main industry of the province, Marañon said the industry should be efficient.
“Let’s keep our sugar industry efficient and as much as possible bring down the cost of production because in other countries, their cost of production is only P600. Here if the prices of sugar is P1,200 per sack, the planters complain because of high cost of production,” he added.
