AT LEAST 10 tourists were injured when their vehicle fell into a 40-meter deep ravine at the national road in Sagada, Mountain Province in the morning of December 23.
In a belated police report, the accident happened while the passenger van was descending the road towards Bontoc, Mountain Province when the vehicle suddenly lost its brake.
The driver decided to slam the vehicle onto a mountain slope but the van continued to move fast which eventually fell and landed on a bushy area along the Sagada-Bontoc National Road at Sitio Pegeo, Antadao, Sagada, Mountain Province at 8:15 a.m.
Injured were identified as Carlo Burlington Navalta, 18; Lander Navalta Butlig, 18; Eleanor Navalta Galera, 52; Susana Butlig Navalta, 52; Pamilo Espitito Navalta, 53; Remylyn Butlig Navalta , 20; Aquilino Butlig Navalta, 20; Gloria Niro Lauraga, 60; Eric Opinia, 42; and Reynaldo Navalta Laureaga, 56; who are all residents of Magallanes, Luna, La Union.
They were all admitted at St. Theodore’s Hospital.
