THE Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) is eyeing to produce 100 Children's Games in the country.
PSC Chairman William Ramirez bared this during a fellowship dinner with the Summer Children's Games 2017 Davao City organizers , volunteers, and PSC staff from Manila at the Tap Room of Jack's Ridge Saturday, May 27.
The returning PSC chairman said, "I was envisioning if we can produce 100 children's games in the country and millions of volunteers for sports for peace in the next five years. That would be my greatest achievement as chairman of the PSC."
rThe PSC chief said that he felt like winning a gold medal after seeing the joy of some 1,000 children, representing different barangays of Davao City, who participated in the 3-on-3 basketball, volleyball and the Larong Pinoy.
"These are the children who are not seen by our government and not seen by the society," Ramirez said.
The participants, aged 10 to 12 years old, were mostly public elementary school students and indigenous children.
Christians, Muslims and Lumads played together in the three-day Games, which is a primary component of the PSC's Sports for Peace Program, spearheaded by Ramirez.
rRamirez thanked the participants for making the Games a success and also urged them to join him in his journey with the children.
The PSC chairman, meanwhile, shared the roles of education and sports in developing children to become responsible citizens during the closing remarks during Saturday's closing program of the Summer Children's Games 2017 at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.
He encouraged participants to study hard.
"Reach your dreams, you will see new places and learn different languages," Ramirez said.
He also said that staying in sports will teach them discipline and will give a sound mind and a sound body.
He added that children playing together despite of religious, political, cultural, social and educational status show them that Filipinos are one.
"There may be war in other countries and disorder in our own backyard, but through this we show everyone that peace reigns in Davao, in Mindanao," Ramirez said.
The Summer Children's Games 2017 was presented by PSC with the Philippine Sports Institute Davao City in cooperation with the Liga ng mga Barangay and the Davao City Government.
