SOME 100 wrestlers are expected to compete in the 80th Araw ng Dabaw Sports Festival Wrestling competition that will kick off on April 1 at the Felcris Centrale along Quimpo Boulevard, Davao City.
Wrestling regional director and event organizer Paolo Tancontian, in a phone interview with VoxPop Davao, said visitors from Dumaguete City, Koronadal City, Davao del Norte, Panabo City, Tagum City, and Zamboanga City will grace the wrestle mania funded by the Sports Development Division-City Mayors Office (SDD-CMO).
Tancontian also said that the Department of Education (DepEd)-Davao Division wrestling coaches will be the officiating team in the event.
He bared the event will serve as the selection for the upcoming Batang Pinoy 2017 Mindanao leg and the Philippine National Games (PNG) 2017.
"Ang mga winners dito ay iti-train ko ulit para sa mga upcoming bigger events," he said, adding that Davao Regional Athletic Association (Davraa) gold medalists Alfredo Plaza and Lawrence Amaya, who are currently training in Tagum City for the upcoming Palarong Pambansa 2017 on April 23 in Antique, will also compete.
He added that the boys and girls participants may compete in nine to 10 years old 32 kilograms (kg), 11-13 38 kg, 11-13 42 kg, 14-16 47 kg, 14-16 53 kg, 16-17 57kg, 16-17 62kg, 18-19 70kg, and 18-19 74kg.
Registration is pegged at P200 inclusive of officiating fees and a medal.
The gold medalists will receive P800 while the silver and bronze medalists will pocket P500 and P300, respectively. (ABM)
