A TOTAL of 214 runners from different cities, municipalities, and provinces joined the 2016 Sympathy Run held Sunday in an out-and-back course from Maa Firing Range in Davao City.
Team Kapwa race director Jay Albert Inte, in a phone interview with Sun.Star Davao, said participants from Zamboanga, Cebu, Gensan, Cagayan de Oro, Butuan, Bukidnon, Bicol and Davao took the 14-kilometer course they prepared to pay tribute to Friday evening's Roxas Night Market bombing incident.
"Ginawa naming 14K ang run katumbas ng 14 ka-tao na binawian ng buhay," Inte said.
The course started at Maa firing range and passed through Barangay Magtuod going to Langub, Diversion Road and back to origin.
Forerunners Davao Ultrarunners Club (DUC) vice president Jonathan Pido, Davao Strider Chang Palmes, Archie Escuadro of PRC Panabo, Ariel Nguho of TDR Davao and Eduard Diabo of Infinitea Runners Cebu led the race and finished simultaneously after two hours of running.
Pido, in a separate interview, said they guided the visitors since the course was not familiar to them.
"Sinabihan ako ng race director na dapat sabay-sabay kami matapos para walang mauna since hindi ito competitive na race," Pido added.
All participants lighted candles and offered prayers at the Maa Firing Range.
All participants received medals and certificates as a token of appreciation.
