THE People's Law Enforcement Board (Pleb) dismissed the 19 cases filed against the personnel of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).
Councilor Ricardo Tan, chairman of Pleb, said Friday, March 2, there are 24 cases filed against the policemen that were not resolved in about 10 years.
Of the number, 19 cases were dismissed while the remaining cases are up for board resolutions and hearing.
Tan, who led the hearing at the City Council Friday, said they rescheduled the hearing after the legal counsel of the complainant failed to show up.
"In less than a year, 19 cases were already dismissed and this is an unprecedented performance of Pleb members," he said.
Tan said the cases were dismissed because most of the complainants failed to appear during the hearings while some of the respondents are already retired from the Philippine National Police (PNP) service or dead.
Other members of the Pleb include Barangay Granada captain Alfredo Talimodao Jr., representing the villages; lawyer Jovim Entila of Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Negros Occidental Chapter; former councilor Celia Flor of the women’s sector; and Antonio Te from the private sector.
Pleb is the central receiving entity for any citizen's complaint against officers and members of the PNP. It also conducts hearings, resolves, and render decision on cases filed against the erring policemen
Tan said he is hopeful that this year, they could resolve all the administrative cases filed against the policemen.
